In a vibrant celebration of community and sustainability, The Crop re-imagines the traditional market experience by implementing a dynamic space akin to Pike Place, nestled in the heart of downtown Portland. Historically, markets have played a crucial role in food production and exchange, as well as community building. The Crop aims to demonstrate how a centralized marketplace can bring equitably sourced food to the people of Portland while supporting local farmers, businesses, and restaurant owners.

The project is thoughtfully divided into distinct zones to enhance the marketplace experience. Permanent market and restaurant spaces will provide a stable platform for local chefs and artisans, showcasing the rich culinary diversity of the region. A dedicated vendor corridor will be available for local vendors, allowing them to share their unique offerings and connect directly with the community. Additionally, some food will be grown on-site using innovative vertical farming strategies, emphasizing sustainability and fresh produce. By addressing food insecurity, The Crop will also collaborate with the homeless community and houseless organizations to establish a food exchange program. This initiative ensures that every member of Portland has access to sustainable, locally sourced food and produce, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment throughout the city.
